5 Reasons Why You Will Learn to Like Cannabis

No matter what your opinion on the matter is, the American flag was first made from industrial hemp. Some of our founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, grew it on their property.

The uses and benefits of cannabis go far beyond what the public has thought for the past few decades. It's used in textiles, construction, and has innumerable health benefits for people who are suffering.

Here are 5 reasons you'll learn to like cannabis, whether you want to use it or not.

But First: What Is Cannabis?

1. It's Natural and Organic

what is cannabis? If you didn't know, cannabis is a genus of plant species that includes "marijuana" and hemp. Marijuana has THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinoil), which makes people feel "high" when ingested or smoked. Hemp has less than 0.3% of THC, making it ideal for a variety of uses, including extracting CBD (cannabidiol).  We'll get into the benefits of CBD later in this article. First, we'll give you an undeniable reason to love cannabis--it's naturally occurring. Cannabis isn't a lab creation--it grows straight out of the soil, with a little help from sunlight.

Our culture is becoming more and more "green" as we realize the importance of sustainability. If we don't take environmental issues seriously, we won't have an environment to call home.

A big part of the green movement is growing organic food and products. As we know, not everything is grown organically. This, unfortunately, includes cannabis.

While cannabis is natural and organic in it's original form, many companies are starting to use harmful chemicals to boost returns. This is happening with our food, too, and has been happening since industrialization.

It's important to support organic distributors to get the full benefits from the things you ingest. Additionally, supporting legalization supports regulation, aiding in keeping toxic chemicals out of medicine.

Research shows that organic cannabis reduces an enormous list of symptoms including lack of appetite, nausea, pain, inflammation, sleep problems, and more.

CBD (an extraction from hemp) has yielded positive results in aiding more serious health issues, too.

2. There Are Huge Medicinal Benefits of Cannabis

Along with treating common symptoms, cannabis research shows that it may aid mental health issues, cancer, and addiction.

The list of benefits grows longer as more research surfaces.  Celiac, leaky gut, and Chron's disease have made the cut.

Why are there so many health benefits with cannabis?

It may be due to the fact that cannabis plants contain many different exogenous cannabinoids, and mammals have an endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) that maintains homeostasis.

So, ingesting cannabis may help balance our own system, reversing many medical issues that deter us.

These results come from research and user experience. Because of legal issues with cannabis, there's not yet an official recommendation of use from the FDA.

3. You Can Get Guidance From History

Cannabis use is federally illegal, but there's no RDA (recommended daily allowance) from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). The RDA of a substance depends on if it meets the nutrition requirements of 97% of healthy people.

Cannabinoids may one day be widely accepted as a nutritional requirement, considering we have our own endocannabinoid system that needs balancing.

As of right now, the suggested intake of cannabis comes from research and user experience. Claims stating ingesting CBD is harmful are few and far between, so following current suggestions is relatively risk-free.

Always consult your doctor before taking a CBD supplement if you are pregnant or take any other medications.

Acceptance, full legalization, and research not only helps users, but it can also help the entire country as a whole.

4. It's American and Can Rebuild America

An example of this is Colorado.  Look at the success they've experienced since legalization.

Not only does cannabis provide substantial income to our country: it can help end the opioid epidemic that's plaguing America.

In the past, pharmaceutical companies claimed that opioids weren't addictive or bad for long-term use. Now we know this isn't true, as 21-29% of patients prescribed opioids abuse them.  This often leads to heroin addiction as prescriptions run out.

CBD can help opioid addicts. And perhaps, using CBD daily can prevent pain from ever happening, eliminating the need for opioids in the first place. The only reason we haven't been taking advantage of this lucrative and healing crop is due to outdated politics.

Cannabis was first made illegal in reaction to the Mexican Revolution through the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Cannabis was common throughout our country before this and we never called marijuana -- it was hemp.

Mexican immigrants called the plant "marihuana", which is where we get the term today. Making this crop illegal has been a tool to discriminate immigrants and people of color. The claims were that it caused people to become violent and sexual, which current research doesn't support.

It seems counterintuitive that this crop is illegal when you look at what this country stands for; freedom.

5.  It Promotes Adult Choice

cannabis adult choiceOne defining characteristic of being American is the importance of autonomy. You can call it freedom, liberty, or whatever you want, but it's the idea that there's limited intervention from the government.

Why is it that we can choose to use alcohol or tobacco but we can't choose to consume cannabis?

Alcohol abuse leads to at least 88,000 deaths annually, coming second to tobacco.

Supporting the choice of cannabis, whether you partake in it or not, supports adult choice and freedom. At the end of the day, that's all anyone wants, right?
